teaching

I am currently based in South Buckinghamshire, and am available to teach clarinet, saxophone, flute and recorder across the South East.

Online lessons via Skype and Zoom are also available.

I teach woodwind students of all ages and abilities, and firmly believe that everyone is capable of learning a musical instrument...it's all about finding the right instrument and the right teacher!

I pride myself on being approachable and flexible, whilst still being incredibly committed to my student's musical journey. I always prioritise my student's enjoyment of learning music - it should be fun, and if it's not, then something's gone wrong somewhere!

With a 100% pass rate, I'm comfortable entering students for graded exams when they are ready, but am also more than happy to teach without the structure of regular assessments.

Elements of music theory, jazz, improvisation, and extended techniques are incorporated into lessons in order to broaden the musical skills of pupils, and I will never insist on examinations in order to prove progress.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching as it allows me to impart my knowledge, skills and enthusiasm about woodwind instruments to my pupils. I take great pride in their development as musicians, and often learn as much from them as they learn from me!

I offer trial lessons free-of-charge to all potential students.

I firmly believe that finding the right teacher is one of the most important steps on a musical journey.

Lessons are charged at £15 per half-hour, with special rates available for group lessons, upon request.

I am willing to teach wherever is most convenient for you, whether that be from my home music studio, at your house, or online via Skype or Zoom.

My latest DBS check is from January 2020, and I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.

Please feel free to get in touch with me with any queries you may have, or to book a free trial lesson!

"I have loved having Hannah as my teacher because she tailored the lessons to suit the type of music I enjoy playing and to work towards the exams that I wanted to take. She always put a lot of thought into the pieces she picked for me to play and she always challenged me with pieces to help me improve and develop as a musician. Hannah is very supportive and always encouraged me to play a wide range of musical genres from jazz to classical. Every lesson she would have a smile on her face and she is always very approachable. She conducted herself very professionally during our lessons and is a very reliable person"

- Freya (student)

"We have always been very satisfied with Hannah as Freya’s clarinet teacher and have been particularly impressed with her enthusiasm, knowledge, commitment and overall professionalism.
Hannah has been Freya’s clarinet teacher for 3 years. In that time, she has helped Freya to pass her ABRSM grade 1 and grade 2 clarinet exams. She has always been very flexible with timetabling lessons to fit round Freya’s other commitments and Freya has generally had a one hour lesson once a fortnight. We are particularly pleased that Hannah accommodated the fact that Freya’s main objective in having music lessons was to learn to play and enjoy the clarinet rather than always to be working towards another exam. We have no hesitation in recommending Hannah as a music teacher and both we, and Freya, have thoroughly enjoyed working with her."
